Panorama Wednesday 9th February:

Colonel Tim Collins, meets the soldiers who return home only to find that their service counts for little on their return home. This Panorama special, meets veterans who struggle to find work and housing. Colonel Collins sleeps rough on the streets of Brighton with a former soldier who has spent much of the past six years either on the streets or in jail. He meets veterans who fear for their sanity as they suffer flashbacks, night terrors and violent outbursts and talks to families who struggle to cope with the husbands and fathers who went to war, only to come home as strangers. Without spin and without an agenda this is worth watching

Military records ‘should be available to doctors’:

DOCTORS should have access to the military record of veterans as well as their medical history, an influential committee of AMs has reported. Such a move would help diagnose cases of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) more quickly, claims the National Assembly’s health, wellbeing and local government Committee. The report from the cross-party group of AMs says that gaps in veterans’ medical notes caused by the Ministry of Defence not disclosing information were resulting in many veterans with PTSD being misdiagnosed. aftermathptsd.co.uk:

John Mc Dermott, award winning artist and founder of www.aftermathptsd.co.uk aims to remove the stigma attached to combat related posttraumatic stress disorder, by creating a bridge of understanding between sufferers and the community and raising national public awareness of this condition using visual art.  Reciprocal links are being established between ourselves to raise awareness of what we want to achieve on behalf of our service men and women his website has some stunning images well worth a look.

PTSDhelp logo:

Members have asked for a standardised logo they can use on their websites. The attached Jpeg file is the recognised image for the website if you do use it on your site please link back to the home page www.ptsdhelp.co.uk. The more people who use the logo on their websites the higher our ranking will become on the search engines.

An interesting concept that has been discussed is utilising of the British legion  network of clubs to provide a treatment facility, if anyone has attachment or contacts in the British legion it may be worth approaching the club steward or president  to organise a monthly drop in evening,  let me know of any feedback on this idea.

I keep hearing that we as alternative and complementary therapists are making very generous offers of our time and expertise to some high profile government sponsored charities’ that are supposed to have the best interests of our service men at their core.  These offers usually equate to free client facing time on a regular monthly basis. What is disturbing is these offers are routinely dismissed out of hand often without even a reply. If you can provide me with your experience of these offers being declined please let me know.  I feel that it is not only letting down our servicemen and women by making decisions about what help they can have, but the bigger consideration is, are  the powers that be trying to contain an ever growing problem, and if so why? I will also launch this question on the forum

Once again thank you for your support

With my best regards.

Marc Bishop.
