Using the PTSDhelp web site

 

Information Gathered:

We gather information from the people who use our Site so that we can offer our users a better, more fulfilling experience. We gather this information in a manner that provides for protection of personal privacy, and with an eye towards maintaining the security of all gathered information. This document details how we go about collecting, maintaining and storing information.

General and Automatic Information Gathering

General and Automatic information gathering refers to information about site usage that gets recorded automatically every time certain server activities are requested . These gathering processes apply to all users of the Site. There is no obvious indication that these implicit data gathering activities are taking place. There is no way to opt-out of these implicit information recording activities.

Web Server Logs and Web Analytics

Like most sites, we keep a running record of what pages are requested on our Site. We do this both by analysing the web server logs generated by our web server software, and also by including in our pages one or more web analytics javascript code blocks as provided by Google Analytics, Omniture and/or other web analytics firms we may have authorized to monitor our web site. Web server logs and analytics data contain information about what pages are most popular, and how many pages are viewed in a given time period. Though directly identifying information is not included in with the data collected by these activities, IP addresses are recorded as are time stamps.

Intra-Web site Searches

We record the keywords and search terms site users type into the search box provided on this web site so as to better keep track of what information readers are seeking. IP and timestamp data are collected for each search.

 

Specific Information Gathering

Specific information gathering refers to information about site usage that gets recorded whenever site visitors take specific and optional actions within the Site. Site visitors can avoid these records being kept by simply opting to not participate in these options..

Article Comments

The Site may offer readers the opportunity to append comments to various articles contained within the Site. Commenting on the Site's articles or resources is entirely optional. No login is required to make comments, and comments may be made anonymously at readers' discretion. However, IP and timestamp information is recorded along with each comment submitted to the Site. All comments may be evaluated and/or edited by Site staff members prior to or after publication. Any comment may be deleted from the Site at any time for any reason at the sole discretion of Site staff.

Community Participation

The Site may offer readers the optional opportunity to participate in an online community consisting of forum and/or chat software in which various readers may communicate with one another. Participation in the community is entirely voluntary. Readers must sign up for a community account before they can post comments within the community. Community accounts are provided at the sole discretion of Site staff members who may revoke such accounts for any reason at any time. At minimum, a username and a valid email address must be provided by prospective community members, although validated members with active accounts may add additional information to their accounts at their discretion. Members of the community must read and abide by the community rules at all times or risk the deactivation of their accounts. Community data is stored on-site. Community members may deactivate their accounts at any time. However, deactivation of an account will not trigger automatic removal of content submissions previously made to the community using that account.

Email Newsletter

 

This site may offer an optional period email newsletter that readers can sign up for. If this is the case, signup links will be provided on header, footer and/or navigation areas of the site. Clicking on these links will take readers off-site to a trusted third party resource specializing in email newsletters (e.g., Constant Contact) where their registration will be accepted and recorded. Interested readers are asked to provide their name, Postcode and email address. Records are maintained off-site at the trusted third party email provider. Copies of newsletter subscription lists may be archived and stored by Site managers for backup purposes. Subscription to the newsletter is completely option. Subscribed readers may unsubscribe themselves at any time by following links provided for this purpose within each newsletter mailing.

Therapist Listings

The site may offer professional readers the opportunity to submit information to the Site for the purpose of promoting their clinic or clinical practice. Submitted data are stored on-site and may be made available to the general readership of the Site in the form of a searchable database of therapist listings. Participation in this listing database is an entirely voluntary activity. Professional readers must sign up for a site account before they can submit their listing data. Accounts are available for free. Identifying information is asked for during the signup and listing process, and is stored along side of the other listing data. Readers with site accounts can manage their listings through the Site's web-based Control Panels and may publish, un publish, edit, delete or feature each listing. A valid username and password is required before entry to the Control Panels will be granted. Readers who have lost their passwords can have them mailed to the email they provided when their account was created, or, alternatively, the Site's staff will reset them upon request from a valid email account. It is free to publish listings. However, in exchange for a small fee listings can be featured to make them stand out amongst the competition. Details pertaining to the creation and maintenance of therapist listings are provided in the Therapists Listing control panel.

Surveys

From time to time this Site may offer readers the opportunity to participate in surveys. Participation in all surveys is completely optional. Readers' responses to survey questions becomes the exclusive property of the Site. Data is stored on-site. The Site will use the information gathered from the surveys to better understand reader demographics, interests, desires, questions and comments. There is no option for readers to retract their responses from submitted surveys.
