In last month’s news letter I asked for testimonials and comments regarding the site the therapists and what we are doing. This is the longest page on the site whatever comments we receive are reproduced as received. Where necessary a comment or response has been attached. We would like to think that it gives some hope to people who may feel that they are alone with their problem. I endured almost 8 years of on-going exposure to the horrors of the Balkans (Bosnia and Kosovo).  My tours included prolonged periods of time in front-line areas, not without some hazard.  As part of a specialist team of linguists, the nature of my work cannot be divulged.  I got the distinct impression, as did other colleagues, that the military psychiatrists were taking detailed notes for the benefit of their Case for the Defence, just in case the matter ever came to Court.  Indeed, my request for some form of Counselling was met with "that's only for tree-huggers" by Maj Wxxxx, later promoted Lt Col Wxxxx.  I declined any chemical interventions as I don't like the inevitable side-effects.  Upon returning to civvy-street in 2000, a Harley Street Hypnotherapist soon put matters right by giving me a fresh perspective.  So impressed was I that I trained in Clinical Hypnotherapy myself and have been in practice ever since.  My new vocation enables me to assist individuals in Surrey.  My offers to assist individuals at HEDLEY COURT with my unique experience and qualifications were ignored on account of the "closed-shop" system put in place by the pharmaceutical mafia, who earn far more than I do by administering the "chemical cosh" to keep their patients subdued.  "Mainstream" medicine, which has only been around 100 years compared with Complementaty and Alternative treatments, has a lot to answer for.

Thank you for the information you have given me and i would like to be a part of  the  PTSDhelp organisation.

However i feel i need to mention that i feel uncomfortable with being called an alternative therapist.  As a registered Nurse, Hypnotherapist and Complementary Therapist  I need to mention I am not an acupuncturist which is the only profession recognised as an alternative therapy to medical treatment within the UK.

I am not a medical practitioner and as such cannot prescribe nor give advice on medical treatment, this as you are aware can only be done my a suitably qualified doctor or medical practitioner.  I work along side health professionals and use my skills to enhance the treatment provided by these people whom i have tremendous respect for.

My Reply   to above

Thanks for your response and your comments regarding alternative health care are duly noted I will stress from the beginning that the primary care giver is the medical profession and that must always be the case, the banner alternative and complementary health care does tend to be seen as a catch all banner but it is entirely appropriate as that is what it is an alternative such as acupuncture or complementary such as hypnotherapy or reflexology. What I think is important here is choice when I signed on with the military many years ago  I signed up to serve I didn’t sign away my right to choose which unfortunately is the case within the military the lack of choice  ( it is however changing ) the major thrust of the problem is the stigma of approaching the medical system within the military with  PTSD  problems as it is viewed as weakness can impact on promotion career and  pension prospects, but if you went sick with a dose of the clap it is almost a status symbol and the infected member would be duly presented with military pride.

As a nurse I think that you provide a valuable bridge between medical science and health care knowledge which is where the divide begins too many doctors who for whatever reasons do not have sufficient time to fully understand the presenting problem and cure is normally drug focused in the initial stages rather than a last resort. As a Hypnotherapist one comment I often hear is you are my last resort so as well as dealing with the emotional problem I have to deal with a dependency issue and the withdrawal from long term medication.  Paradoxically up until 40 years ago “talking therapy” was the only alternative and proved to be reasonably successful if not perfect. However science and knowledge have both advanced equally but the application of knowledge has been dominated by the desire of the patient for the quick fix. When the individual decides for themselves that they want to change or make different choices all we can do is give them the best advice possible and in the absence of a grammatical better it would seem that alternative and complementary health care (not medicine as is sometimes quoted) would be our only choice

Dear Maxxxxx
As I continue to progress from depression and the state of anxiety in which I found myself back in December 2009, I thought I would let you, and possibly some of your prospective clients to come, know that I am truly grateful and very deeply impressed by the care and attention you gave me in our two sessions and then telephoning to see how I was progressing after that.
As you are very well aware, a lot of my problem was based on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder suffered many years ago and never quite treated properly by any psychiatrist, psychologist or other Mental Health professional, both in and out of the military.

However, with just one intense, but amazing, session under your care, concentrating on my problems arising from that Gulf War experience, I immediately felt a lifted man, freed at last from the anchor of those terrifying times.

I would recommend Hypnotherapy under your intuitive and gentle care to anyone for anything they may be having problems with, because my life, I feel, almost has a feel of beginning again and I feel safe in the mindset I now enjoy courtesy of your dedication and professional care.

“Our first session was to find out about my personal history. It was explained to me how sometimes we can become emotionally aroused when we are in danger, as part of a natural survival instinct; and how we can reduce the emotional reaction and learn to be calm and relaxed. The second session, two days later, involved becoming very calm and relaxed; letting my imagination focus on a pleasant memory; and allowing the traumatic memories to be recalled but in a detached and unemotional way. After the session, I felt relieved and refreshed, and was grateful that at no stage did I have to re-live, recall or re-tell any of the traumatic events”.

“After three sessions (of therapy), the flashbacks stopped and I felt able to take myself off anti-depressants. Within six months I went back to work. Now, four years later I feel I am back to normality: I have survived a redundancy, got a new job, have a new relationship, have resisted the temptation to revert to alcohol for support, and have good relationships with my ex-wife and my parents.”

“I think the medical profession has got it wrong when they make the distinction that more people in the forces are suffering from alcohol and drug dependency than PTSD. It is because of the symptoms of PTSD that people resort to alcohol and drugs. PTSD Resolution has got it right and I would recommend them to anyone who’s suffering, and to get help sooner rather than leaving it too late.”

"The main benefit of Resolution is that I can now talk about my experiences in a calm way. I can sleep normally. My wife and I would urge anyone who is suffering from stress from their time in the services to seek help sooner rather than later. The help provided by Resolution is immediate, convenient and it’s very effective. I recommend it unreservedly”.

2010

Born in Windsor, lived in Wraysbury and Datchet, till my Danish mother, and my father decided to move to Denmark. I returned to UK, to join the forces, and served 4 yrs, until I was medically discharged, due to brain damage, after six operations, for "Hydrocephalus", a brain haemorrhage, and a brain tumor. In 1996 my ex-wife and I had a pair of identical twins, unfortunately they were born 14 wks prematurely and Michelle died after just over 24 hours, Nadia died after approx. 48 hours. We recieved no form of councelling or therapy. We were lucky to have a beautiful son, almost 2 yrs later, he has just turned twelve. However I have had very limited contact with my son, since January 2001, as I was evicted from my flat, after I gradually fell apart metally after my then wife left me. I was homeless for three years, until I met my present wife, she reached out to help me back on my feet, and we were married Nov 5th 2005. Everything was fine, until the financial crisis began, and caused my income (War pension) to drop substancially and still is a an all time low, the last year since the crisis started, my income has dropped with the equivalent to £ 500-600 every for every monthly payment, dued to excahange rate. This had grave consequences for my wife and I, also as she was self-employed and also was feeling the effects of the crisis. All this resulted in frustration, anger, dissappointment, and for me, shame, depression and feelings of extreme guilt.

To cut a long and painful story short. I, regretfully have been "somewhat" violent towards my present wife. And she too has now left me. Since I resolved to violence, I have sought help, here in Denmark, but have found nothing, of any use. Apart from a diagnosis for PTSD, in January this year and yet another diagnosis for ADHD, in August this year, I recieve very limited councelling, other than meetings wih psychiatrist to discuss medicine (Ritaline) but apart from that I recieve no help. I was recently discharged from psychiatric ward an Randers Hospital, after the doctor told me "you're not psychologically ill, you jus have massive social problems."

I have contemplated suicide more than once, and can't see any other way out of this, desperate situation.

My present wife, and my son, mean everything to me, but as neither are part of my life on a day to day basis, and I have no TRUE freinds, I'm living in a hell, of despair, and self-hatred, guilt, and shame.
